No arrests in reported night hunt
Two Oconee County men had to explain themselves Sunday after a passer-by thought they were poaching deer or hunting at night, which is illegal, according to a sheriff's report.
Don't Veer for Deer
February might be the cruelest month, but October and November are two of the most dangerous months -- especially in upper Midwest states like Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. There, cars encounter deer in an intimate and sometimes deadly way in staggering numbers. While the uninitiated warning against collisions might seem as useful as warning against meteor showers or being struck by errant bowling balls, the fact is that there are an estimated 1.75 million white-tailed deer in the state of Michigan alone, and neighboring states are home to similar numbers of the animals.
Deer hunting is a year-round process
Deer season is still several months away, but if you plan on having a good chance to score a major kill this fall, you need to make sure you have done everything possible this summer to increase your odds.
Gardeners don't fawn over deer
Sometimes even a doe-eyed Bambi will wear out its welcome. Deer have been banned from many gardens, orchards and woodlots because they damage or destroy so many tender shoots, fragile saplings and emerging blooms.
